Calgary, Alberta
Calgary is a
dynamic and cosmopolitan business city renowned for its entrepreneurial spirit. Whether
hosting world-caliber events like the 1988 Winter Olympics or exploring emerging
international markets, Calgary demonstrates a can-do attitude and a willingness to take on
the world. For
ten days every July the “Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth”, the Calgary
Exhibition and Stampede, attracts thousands of visitors and transforms this modern city
into an old west Cowtown where business
suites give way to boots and jeans.
The international buzz is loud in the Calgary Region – and
the world is listening. International trade has been, and continues to be,
a major focus for many businesses. Exporting brings our products and
services into markets beyond our domestic scene. Whether it’s across the
US border or around the globe, Calgary is well-positioned for access,
service and product quality. And we are getting attention. The recent
relocation of the Japanese Consulate to
Calgary
is a significant indicator of the potential and success of our
international trade development. Calgary is the second largest centre for
head offices in Canada. Our industrial base includes energy, agriculture,
manufacturing, research and development, advanced technology and tourism.
The City also maintains strategic economic alliances with other
governments.
Get
away to a world of adventure and freedom. Spring ski in the high country
and golf in green valleys on the same day. Walk, jog or bike along winding
paths that follow sparkling rivers. Float over the city in a hot air
balloon on a warm summer morning. Go trail riding, heli-hiking, fishing,
touring or whitewater rafting under bright blue skies.
Attractions
Throughout the year, shopping, theatre, galleries, symphony, ballet,
concerts and dazzling nightlife are close at hand. Chase a dragon through
Chinatown. Gasp at the almost- touchable
images of a giant-screen movie. Be a kid again at a children's festival,
or jump to jive at a jazz festival.
Explore prairie history at a pioneer settlement, museum or fort. Spend a
day at the zoo or an international-calibre equestrian facility. Tour
Winter Olympic sites. Try your luck at a casino. Cheer on professional
hockey, football and baseball teams.
Relax at mountain resorts in Kananaskis Country, Canmore and Banff
National Park. Travel back in time at a world-famous dinosaur museum or
peer over a cliff at an ancient buffalo hunting ground.

A popular saying in Calgary is "if you don't like the weather, wait five
minutes!" Because Calgary is located in the eastern foothills of the
Canadian Rockies, the weather can be unpredictable. Calgarians have
learned to dress in layers, ready for any type of weather Mother Nature
presents us. Below are the average temperatures throughout the year, but
the warm Chinoook winds can always bring a sudden rise in temperature.
The initial stage of Shaw Millennium Park officially opens Sept. 30. The
park serves as a legacy to the city's journey into the 21st century.
Located on the former Mewata
Stadium site, it has a skateboard facility, area for other sports like
soccer and BMX biking, and a multi-purpose family park. Other millennium
projects include: 800 ceramic Friendship Tiles created by children for the
+15 hallway near Jack Singer Concert Hall; the Calgary Millennium Clock
Tower will be erected at the entranceway to Shaw Millennium Park in 2001;
a mobile community kitchen will travel to Calgary communities helping
families plan and create meals; the Bring Back
the Bells Carillon Society formed and one of its projects is to buy a
carillon for The Calgary Tower; the Lougheed Estate, Beaulieu, will be
restored and transformed into an interpretive centre for Western Canadian
history.
Calgary is also the first municipality in Canada to receive two safe
community designations, one from the World Health Organization and the
other from the National Safe Communities Foundation. Please fill out the form below completely and
