St. Andrews Homes For Sale Community Location |
St. Andrew, New Brunswick Steeped in history, the town was founded in 1783. Many homes were transported from Castine, ME, USA, where loyalists had settled believing they were on Canadian soil. The town was an important shipbuilding area which eventually died out over time. The magnificent Algonquin Hotel was constructed in 1889, after which the town became a popular summer resort town for the wealthy. Such notables were people like Sir William Van Horne, (President of the Canadian Pacific Railway) and Lord Shaughnessy. Many of the original summer houses are still in existence and have been well preserved and maintained in their original styles and constructions. After the original Algonquin was destroyed by fire, it was reconstructed in 1915. Still a popular summer location, the town is gaining momentum with the construction of a championship 18 hole golf course which will replace the existing executive 9 hole and 18 hole courses. With the location, historical and architectural attributes, St. Andrews continues to thrive on its tourism industry during the summer months. If you're considering a retirement destination, or a location to be in business, raise a family, or just a summer getaway, St. Andrews comes highly recommended. See you soon!
