While government departments provide employment for many of our citizens, as do some larger companies and the extensive commercial fishing industry, it is the many individual retail operations and small, entrepreneurial endeavours that keep a vibrant and independent business core alive and well.

The community is served by a medical clinic and a fully modern hospital, with an ambulance corps and EMTs. The community has an excellent Public Library at which there are often special events with visitors. You can find canoes for rent, aircraft for charter, bus service to Fort Smith and Yellowknife. Best of all there are wonderful sandy beaches.
