Welland boasts pleasant and neatly kept tree-lined residential
neighbourhoods. There are a variety of living choices for any desired living style in
Welland ranging from bachelor apartments to high-rises, bungalows and semi-detached
houses, as well as senior' complexes. Welland also boasts a low crime rate, making
residential living in the City safer than in larger metropolitan centres. Whether it's
fishing at Chippawa Park, picnicking on the canal bank, kicking the ball around at
Welland's indoor soccer field, or watching championship rowing and canoeing regattas on
the Welland Recreational Waterway, there's always something to do, watch or play. Welland
has outstanding sports and leisure facilities available at a fraction of the costs charged
by larger cities.
Life after work is important to Wellanders. Parks dotted with
beautiful flowers and trees sprawl across more than 300 acres of rolling landscape in the
Rose City, not including the recreational lands alongside the canals. Top-notch accessible
ballparks, ice rinks and cycle paths are located throughout our neighbourhoods. Duffers
and pro golfers are surrounded by one of the highest concentrations of golf courses and
country clubs in Canada. Welland's floral parks and creative murals; nearby
Niagara-on-the-Lake's historical landmarks and winery tours; Shaw Festival dramas and
Artpark's musical reviews; theme parks and symphony concerts . . . you have front row
seats to the entertainment world when you live in Welland.
You might prefer to study various arts on display at Rodman in
St. Catharines. Or you could enjoy a picnic beside the whitewater Niagara Gorge after
hiking in steep rocky trails. You can see the latest movie on the big IMAX screen or at
any of our modern cinemas, take a museum or a historic house tour, or see a fort or battle
re-enactment. Explore Welland's rich past and heritage.
Welland and the Niagara area boast several boisterous,
"happening" festivals. The spirit of Welland is celebrated every June as the
City hosts its "Rose Festival", with a huge parade and many gala events, street
parties, and cultural displays. Welland welcomes fall with a fair and also a very
successful Food Festival. The Niagara Region's grape growers and their internationally
known wines are toasted during the famous week long Niagara Grape and Wine Festival, in
nearby St. Catharines.
We've got 12 public primary English and French language schools,
and 5 high schools in Welland, one being French language . . . which means lots of kids,
right? We have French immersion, Roman Catholic separate schools, private schools (Ridley
College is 20 minutes away), special education, technical, vocational and whatever else
you need. Niagara College of Applied Arts and Technology and Brock University are growing
rapidly with some 14,000 full time students. Recently, there has been a new
development of homes alongside a greenbelt area by the old Welland Canal. Homes in this
vicinity offer quality living facilities as well as a wide variety of outdoor recreational
opportunities.
All in all, Welland makes for an exciting, safe and affordable
place to live, work and/or raise a family. |
